Some Continuous Ink Supply Systems can only be used with certain types of ink, while others can accept several types from OEM to specialty inks, all in which are available and supplied through MELCO Technologies. At any time the Continuous Ink Supply System can be removed with no permanent changes and converted back easily to use standard cartridges. Installing a Continuous Ink Supply System is very easy and takes only 5-20 minutes depending on the type of kit and the printer. The location of the Ink supply tanks to the printer is extremely important, as they cannot sit higher than the printer or gravity could cause ink to flood the cartridge causing improper printing and spillage inside the printer. Although the special cartridges included in Continuous Ink Supply Systems have been manufactured for longevity, cartridges with built in print heads will eventually wear out. This chip tells the printer that the cartridge is always 100% full, negating the need to change it. The Continuous Ink Supply System kit is made for these printers and has its own write-protected microchip attached to the cartridge. When the cartridge is depleted to a certain level the microchip will not allow the cartridge to be used again, even if it is refilled. Some printers use ink cartridges with an attached microchip that keeps a record of the ink level used. The external ink supply tanks are clear, making it a snap to refill any colours that may be running low and hold significantly more ink than traditional cartridges, minimizing interrupted printing, messy cartridge replacement and maintenance. Large runs of photographs or other jobs can be spooled without worry of running out of ink. Bottled ink is not only more economical but all ink is eventually used and friendlier to the environment.Īnother advantage of the Continuous Ink Supply System, is that the cartridge is always full, delivering even colour every time that remains consistent regardless of the size of the print run. Kits also include a syringe to clear the ink supply tubes from possible air in the initial setup.Ĭontinuous Ink Supply Systems save the user substantial amounts of money in replacement cartridges, which on top of cost, are discarded while still holding ink and are bad for the environment. These tubes are bound together into a "ribbon" type hose that fit carefully into the printer. A specially designed tube runs from the ink supply tanks to the ink cartridges inside the printer which creates a continuous flow of ink form the tank to the cartridge keeping it fill. Each ink supply tank is filled with the correct colour ink as to the specifications of the printer manufacture. There may be four, five, six, seven (and sometimes even eight) ink supply tanks depending on the printer model. The plastic external ink supply tanks that make part of the Continuous Ink Supply System sit alongside the printer. Instead ink can simply be added to the ink supply tanks as they run low. The simplicity of the system is that the cartridge never runs dry or needs to be constantly replaced when the ink runs out. Continuous Ink Supply Systems (CISS) are aftermarket kits for Inkjet printers that feed ink to a special permanent cartridge in the printer via tubes connected to external ink supply tanks.
